NHS Cervical Cancer Advert

Yup. Written for the advert.

This whole cervical cancer injection worries me. I hope that it doesn’t give teenage girls the message that this one little jab will stop you getting cancer. Because it won’t. It reduces the risks yes, but it is NOT a preventative measure. I wonder how this will affect the number of smear tests conducted.
And for anyone wishing to point out that family doctors will refer young ladies for smears when the time comes, it is simply not true. The NHS states that all women aged from 25-64 should have a 5 yearly (and free) screening but the fact remains that women should take it into their own hands (so to speak) and demand one rather than wait for some magical register to catch up with them. All sexually active women (whether they are straight or lesbian) are at risk of some very nasty problems with their foo foo and should be tested on a regular basis.
No, its not a nice process. No, its not fun. Its uncomfortable and humiliating. But if it drastically decreases the number of women dying of cervical cancer each year then I’m all for it. I’m not within the NHS age range for smears, yet I have referred myself to a GUM clinic in the past to ensure that everything down there is nice and normal.

And this should not be limited to women! Boys, you too should be checking yourselves in to clinics on a regular basis just to have an MOT. So many STI’s can lay dormant for many years, showing no symptoms at all until they kill you.

You may have guessed that sexual screening, for men and women, is an issue I could go on about all day. I just hope that the appearence of the cervical cancer jab doesn’t take away from the importance of having regular tests.

What I want to know is if the HPV vaccine prevents warts aswell because human papilomavirus is the virus that causes warts. Will there be no future witches?

That was an overly superficial attempt to show the world that I know some things about human papilomavirus and by extension, a few other viruses also but my family bought an espresso machine today so I’ve had about 4 doubles so far, I’m writing it anyway, and this rather extended afterthought.

If half the population is immunised against papilomavirus then it will become rarer by an exponential amount because those people will not be able to carry/pass on the virus… Yaay!

Plus my sister is 10 and I’m very glad that she will be recieving this vaccine within a couple of years.

I dont think this vaccine alone will be the reason if there is a decline in women (and men) getting tested it will be the disgusting lack of sex education in the UK grrr. I think that maybe a future post.

I have no idea about the song but I do agree that it is great that they now have vaccines for our younger generation. I'm so happy for my daughter to have this offered to her!!
